| Robert Bateman is a Canadian Naturalist Painter who is famous for his Wildlife Art Poster Prints and Paintings. Born in Toronto on May 24, 1930 he became an artist our of his hobby but had never ever imagined that his love for art and nature shall give him a profession he can live with for years. The beautiful natural surroundings of Toronto always fascinated Robert during his childhood as he began abstract paintings of nature. After his studies and gradation in Geology he joined as a Teacher in Art and Geology. His stint as a teacher did not deter him from painting during his free time as during the 1960’s his style of painting changed from abstract art to realism. This change can also be reflected for Robert’s likeness to The Group of Seven. In the year 1961 he was married to Suzzane Bowerman, the relationship which did not last for a long time. It wasn’t till the 1970’s and 1980’s that Robert’s works on Wildlife and Nature began to get major recognitions in the art world. His show at the Smithsonian Institute held in the year 1987 drew a large crowd every recorded for a living artist. He has almost around 6 Books that are dedicated towards painting and wildlife photography. During 1977 Bateman took a decision to offer his wildlife photography works and other oil paintings to Mills Pond’s Press for reproduction as Posters, Art Prints and Fine Art Photography Prints. Although his decision to offer them as art reproduction did not go well with the art fraternity since during those days it was considered to be way to cheapen the art market, yet it was found that his association and reach to mass audiences brought him immense popularity and demand for his art works which began to be sold for millions. This decision also helped him create a base of consumers who loved his style of painting via posters and art prints which later helped him get ready markets for his books and wildlife documentary films. Today Batemans Wildlife Art Prints, Posters and Photography Art are not only sold in Canada but are available internationally through art web stores, framers and galleries throughout the world. Bateman’s Wildlife Posters are a favourite in India, Asia and other Middle East nation for their fond love for animals and natural surroundings. Today Robert Bateman lives in Saltspring Island in British Columbia along with his second wife Birgit Freybe Bateman. He also has Robert Bateman Secondary School in Abbotsford, British Columbia and Robert Bateman High School in Burlington, Ontario names after him which in itself is a matter of great pride and respect for a living artist. In the year 2007 Robert Bateman gifted art prints, Giclee and Oil Paintings valued in excess of Rupees 100 Crores to Royal Road University which is raising a Robert Bateman Centre that aims to provide accessible programming in education. Apart from his association with Art Robert has also been associated with several documentaries on Wildlife and other subjects related to art as he has been awarded several prestigious awards for his excellence and contribution to art. |
