| Eventually after you have collected autographs for a long period of time you may get the urge to sell autographs and become an autograph dealer. This may seem an easy transition but remember dealing in autographed albums, F1 autographs or sporting memorabilia is not as easy as it seems. Most collectors go for the easy route and join the throng on eBay and get lost amongst a sea of fakes and forgeries selling for low prices. I tried that route with some signed jerseys and signed sports memorabilia only to find that by the seventh day I had no bids and it had cost me money. So what do you do? Put up a sign saying autographs for sale or stand on a street corner shouting “Get your Star Wars autographs here”, I must confess I was sorely tempted to do the latter. But if you want to sell autographs you have to have a multi faceted attack on the market place and remember this is not a way to earn a quick buck!!! If you are a dedicated collector and you want to sell lets say autographed jerseys then a piece of good advice is speak to some of the people you see out collecting sport memorabilia and see if they collect for sport memorabilia stores or if they are autograph dealers who collect signed sports memorabilia. If they were, you could offer your services as a collector of autographed sports memorabilia. This would get you into a circle of like minded people and start you off earning money from your time spent collecting memorabilia. Alternatively you could check out all the memorabilia shows across the UK and try and sell your goods there. These shows sell all sorts of memorabilia like star trek autographed memorabilia, star war collectables, lord of the rings autographs and all sorts of signed memorabilia. The only downside of this is that it costs you for selling space and it can involve lots of travelling. But there is an up side, these shows invariably have private signings where you can collect many star autographs and autographed sports memorabilia at the same time you are trying to sell your authentic autographed items. If you are thinking of attending memorabilia shows I suggest you try and join AFTAL as a lot of shows will only allow you to sell if you are an approved AFTAL dealer. You could also join the UACC and become a member of another association which regulates the autograph trade but it will take you a considerable time to become a UACC registered dealer. You will have to have been dealing in autographed photos for at least 3 years before you can apply to be a UACC RD and have 2 UACC dealers to vouch for you. As I mentioned before this is not a way to make a quick buck! Come to think of it it’s a very poor way of getting rich however I have managed to sell the odd framed autograph and item of collectible memorabilia in my time and have made many friends not just with collectors but with many celebrities over the years. I am off next week to collect golf autographs at the Dunhill Links Championship and also do some charity fundraising for local charities and amateur football clubs lets hope it is a successful week down at St Andrews. Memorabilia 4U is the great source for signed memorabilia for Famous Film/TV, Music and Sports Stars. Here You can get all your favorite celebrities original autographs and signed Photos. |
